Rock crystal can mesmerize! Just let yourself be taken in by the occlusions. They are each unique, and rock crystal ranges from very clear where the occlusions stand out like complicated webs to a more milky crystal that is like fog in the landscape.

sitting room with pair of crystal obelisks
Jorge Elias – Casa Vogue

In this sumptuous sitting room, a pair of rock crystal obelisks holds pride of place on the desk. I love the contrast of the milky ‘white’ crystal among the warm reds and wood.

vignette with tall crystal obelisk
NY Apartment - Scott Snyder

I love this entire vignette. The contrast of antique and modern, and the mix of classical objects is perfect. The tall rock crystal obelisk is both modern and classic at the same time, and helps to frame the artwork on the wall.

rock crystals on dining table by Albert Pinto
Albert Pinto

Rock crystal is such a wonderful medium for catching the light. Here, Albert Pinto uses rock crystal obelisks to add drama to a dining table, catching the candlelight. The occlusions of the crystal are particularly enhanced, and are a wonderful focal point for dinner guests!

rock crystal obelisks for high drama

Rock crystal obelisks always add high drama. They can be a bit tricky to photograph to get the full effect, but they shine through regardless. I am quite partial to the very tall pair we currently have at They have wonderful presence, and the occlusions mesmerize! I can imagine any or all (!) of these pairs on a dining table, a desk, or console table for maximum impact.

Obelisks grouped to fit in fireplace
Cullman & Kravis – Kips Bay Showhouse

In the bedroom design by Cullman & Kravis, they grouped as many rock crystal obelisks as would fit in the fireplace for dramatic effect. They placed a light source behind them to catch your eye.
