Every surface in your home deserves some form of decoration. None more than your desk! We spend many hours at our desks, working, playing, creating, and shopping. Our desks should be places where we are surrounded by things we love – maybe it’s a photo of your honey, certainly it’s the things that you use to work or take notes, and it should include some nice objects.

This desk designed by Alexa Hampton for a Kips Bay Showhouse has a bright chair and lamp, its piled high with books, and includes a pair of marble obelisks and a classical urn. This would be a wonderful place to spend some time each day.

This space has a very classical feel. The antique bureau is topped with a white marble bust and the color scheme of black, white and grey is complimented by the black and white marble obelisk lamp. Converting an obelisk into a lamp is another way to add a decorative obelisk to your desk without taking up extra room, and its functional!

This elaborate French desk is complimented by the brass obelisks and clock. The space is spare, which is perfect if you have a highly decorated piece. For me, brass obelisks somehow call out to be on a desk!

This is my previous office space, maybe looking a little neater than it usually is. I had a pair of bronze lions, and a wonderful green marble obelisk as decorations. The green marble has detailed orange veining that adds so much interest.

I like having a desk in a guest room if I can. This lovely small desk has been in most guest rooms in my homes over the years so that whoever is visiting has a place to sit with their IPad to catch up on work, emails, or surf the net. These cream marble obelisks have been a favorite. I love the way the marble is veined along with the black balls to add contrast.

This was my temporary office space, and even here I had to have an obelisk! This black and white striped marble obelisk follows me everywhere. It’s a different style than the classic obelisk, and I think that’s what I live about it.

Obelisks are really the perfect desk decoration. They don’t take up much room, and they give so much pleasure. Choose one that you will enjoy looking at every day!
